Hello! I’m Rachel and I’m a freelance travel and culture writer based in Munich, Germany. My writing has appeared in Monocle, DK Eyewitness guides, Drift, Singapore Airlines’ SilverKris magazine, TripAdvisor and more. I also work as a local producer for the BBC and am a staff writer at an English-language magazine at Germany’s ZEIT Verlag.
CULTURE
I moved to Munich over a decade ago and started out as a culture writer, contributing to the likes of Telekom’s music magazine Electronic Beats, contemporary fashion platform Not Just A Label, The Huffington Post, and Berlin indie mag Kaltblut. I regularly work for the BBC as a local producer, working on BBC World Service reports.
TRAVEL
I co-authored the MONOCLE travel guide to Munich, printed by Gestalten, and was one of ten authors to include an essay in the guidebook, as well as contributing to the architecture, design, and art chapters. I’ve worked as an editor and travel writer for Singapore Airlines’ inflight magazine SilverKris, luxury hotel chain Mandarin Oriental, travel websites Culture Trip and TripAdvisor, and helped update the DK Eyewitness Guide to Germany, released in 2023. I wrote a chapter for cult coffee magazine Drift‘s Berlin edition and most recently I worked on three DK guide books on Europe, Bavaria and Munich, due to be published in spring 2025. I appeared on DK’s Where To Go podcast in April 2024.
CONTENT MARKETING
I spent a decade working as an editor and writer at two international communications agencies. I still write about technology, mobility, the environment and sustainability for various companies. Freelance clients have included WhereIsMyTransport and Laudea Research GmbH.
FICTION
In late-2023, a short, pataphysical story of mine was published in the Vienna Poetry School’s sfd magazine. In spring 2025, I will publish a short story in Spotlight, an English-language magazine by Die ZEIT Verlagsgruppe.
